Several employees of IBM in the United States have received a letter in which their employer indicating that their skills do not meet current standards. The 'good' news is that the conscious employees are asked to enroll in a supplemental training program. One day per week, maximum 23 times,
The letter reads as follows:
A recent assessment revealed that some GTS US SO executives, managers and employees have not kept pace with acquiring the skills and expertise needed to address changing client needs, technology and market requirements.
You have been identified as one of these employees.
But during that period, the employee in question loses 10% of his salary, including a proportional percentage of his pension contributions and other benefits. The program itself runs from October 16th to April 1st, 2015.
IBM never communicates on such internal measures, but responses to Alliance @ IBM, the unofficial Union site for IBM coworkers worldwide indicate that the message is being spread. Personnel in the Strategic Outsourcing division is primarily targeted.
Small detail: some of the complaints received by Alliance @ IBM were also submitted by employees who aren't affected. They were told to be fill in for the coworkers attending trainings, without additional compensation. Others see the plan as a disguised savings program.
