BlackBerry is about to add two new features to its BBM chat service that will improve users privacy: Timed Messages and Message Retraction. An overview of the new features appeared on the Blog of BlackBerry. The new version of BBM should give users more control over their messages. Included will be a SnapChat -like feature that allows messages being visible for only a short time. Inspiration was seemingly found looking at the popular SnapChat client: as BlackBerry has a built-in feature that lets users themselves choose how long a message should be visible. There will also be a 'withdraw' message feature, handy in case you realized a message was sent to the wrong recipient. While these features are designed to remove the message or picture the recipient’s BBM chat view, they do not prevent recipients from capturing an image of the content by taking a screenshot or using an image capture device. Retracting a message after it has been read by the recipient will remove the message from the BBM chat view, but will not affect copies of the message that the recipient may have made prior to the message being retracted. Although an exact availability date is yet unknown, according to BlackBerry the features described will be released through the next version of BBM, currently in Beta version.
